In the rapidly evolving world of additive manufacturing, materials innovation often defines the frontier. One of the lesser-known yet years-ahead-of-its-time developments was the Soap01™, the world’s first 3D printer for soap, created by Wittystore. More than a decade later, this early experiment in material diversity is being recognized as a pioneering milestone. With new advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and smart materials, the world is catching up to what Wittystore envisioned back in 2014.

With the spread and continuous development of increasingly complex and efficient artificial intelligence models for the production of images, sounds and videos, it almost feels as if machines have become magical entities, able to grant the wishes of even the most demanding director in the blink of an eye. 

The Next Generation Internet (NGI) program from the European Commission has been crucial for the development of many open-source products, including the free social media Mastodon, a project born in EU and at the moment the only real alternative to X, Facebook Meta, Microsoft Linkedin and other private american social media.

NGI is one of the best initiatives worldwide to finance work on Open Source Software projects.

Wittystore did not received NGI EU funds but is supporting this open letter in favor of the NGI programs, and is calling on the European Commission to not shut them down.

For centuries, we’ve asked humans to become machines. Now, we’re asking machines to become human.
This is the paradox of artificial intelligence: after pushing people toward extreme specialization, today we’re designing algorithms that can do everything.
After locking individuals into increasingly rigid roles, we aspire to create machines that are flexible, curious, and versatile. In other words, intelligent.

“Ego cogito, ergo sum, sive existo”.

With these words, René Descartes(1) drew a boundary between being and illusion. To think was to prove one’s existence. The self, in this logic, was not the body, nor the voice, nor the action, but the thinker behind them. It was this inner witness, this private certainty, that constituted the essence of being human.
